  1. Mustang Software, Inc. is happy to announce that the first minor update
  2. to Wildcat! 4 is being prepared for release.  Version 4.01 is in late
  3. development and is scheduled for release in October of 1994.  The
  4. program will be made available to all purchasers of Wildcat! 4.00
  5. who either purchased directly from MSI or whose registration card is
  6. on file on the release date.  It will be a free upgrade and will be
  7. mailed to all users.  It will not be available for download.

  10. truncated version  on a BBS that cannot handle long messages, you may
  11. obtain the entire text on the MSI HQ BBS as WC401.TXT.]

  13. The following list of additional features, changes and fixes is
  14. published at this time:
  15.  
  16. New Features
  17.  
  18. - Added the ability to run wcPACK while the system is operational and
  19.   taking calls.
  20. - Added the ability for Wildcat! to look for .WCX files BEFORE running
  21.   .BAT files such as THMBNAIL.BAT or LOGON1.BAT etc etc. This also applies
  22.   to all doors and menu hooks.  It allows substitution of .WCX code for
  23.   every system batch file.
  24. - Wildcat! now creates dynamic clickable RIP menus if custom RIP menus
  25.   are not found.  In this case Wildcat! will first display a background
  26.   file with the same name as the current menu with the extension .RMB
  27.   instead of .RIP.  For instance, if your menu is MAIN.RIP the program
  28.   will look for MAIN.RMB to display as the background, it also uses the
  29.   menu extension the same way as the regular menus.
  30. - Added new RIP settings in the new Makewild. You can once again turn rip
  31.   completely off.
  32. - Added a /R command line option that allows you to run WCX files
  33.   directly from the command line, the format is as follows:
  34.        /R PROGRAM.WCX [PARAMETERS]
  35. - Added a /U command line option that allows you to login with a username
  36.   and password.
  37. - Added a new wcCODE file called PRELOG.WCX that runs just BEFORE the user
  38.   is asked for a name and password.
  39. - Wildcat! now logs the Caller ID Number for illegal logon attempts,
  40.   for password and for birthdate and phone information.
  41. - Changed the way Wildcat! deals with batch files that are run as
  42.   events.  If you do not specify a path to your batch file, Wildcat!
  43.   will look in the Batch directory for the file, if you do specify a
  44.   path then it is picked there and run.
  45. - Added the ability to change the WILDCAT! MAIL ROOM text by placing it in
  46.   the prompt file, one word of caution though: if you change it you will
  47.   invalidate some message because Wildcat! looks for that specific text when
  48.   handling wcMAIL messages.
  49. - Added a new @ code called @FAX@ that displays the users fax number.
  50. - Added a new drop file for internet e-mail called INETENTR.BAT, this works
  51.   EXACTLY the same way that FIDOENTR.BAT works except for the name.
  52. - Added a new environment variable called WCPROMPT, it is the path where you
  53.   want Wildcat! to look for the WILDCAT.PRM and WILDCAT.MNU files. So for
  54.   example
  55.            SET WCPROMPT=D:\LANGUAGE
  56.   will make Wildcat! look on device D for the prompt and menu files, this
  57.   allows you to place them in a RAM drive.
  58. - Added a new feature so that when you are listing files and the user presses
  59.   'D' to download and they are asked for a filename they can type in the
  60.   file number and it will be added to the list.
  61. - Changed the login routines so that you can now use a comma to separate names
  62.   and passwords.
  63.  
  64. Changes
  65. -------
  66. There are several program fixes that we view as significant.  In
  67. addition there are many less important changes relating to minor
  68. anomalies and cosmetic operation that are listed as well. The main
  69. operational problems that were addressed include:
  70.  
  71. - Fixed the upgrade program in several areas to ensure the best conversion
  72. - Fixed a problem with changing secondary access in doors.
  73. - Fixed a problem with secondary accesses being lost on the return from a
  74.   door under some situations.
  75. - Fixed a problem with Wildcat! leaving the BadNames file open in certain
  76.   cases.
  77. - Fixed the long info on a file so that if the system cannot find the
  78.   uploader it does not offer the [W]rite option.
  79. - Fixed the problem with uploads losing memory during FILEDESC.BAT
  80.   processing.
  81. - Fixed the update conference routine so that it is as fast as possible,
  82.   it is at least 20 times faster than it was before.
  83. - Fixed a problem with uploading duplicate files and using the allow
  84.   dupes setting.
  85. - Fixed the problem with new users logging in with a different language
  86.   and Wildcat! not keeping the language through the newuser login.
  87. - Fixed a problem with users being able to select internal protocols
  88.   when they did not have access.
  89. - Fixed a problem that sometimes allowed users incorrect access to
  90.   conferences.

  92. The following represents the balance of the changes made, and includes
  93. reference to even the most insignificant items:

  95. - Fixed the help, menu and disp display routines to look for a .RIP file
  96.   when in RIP mode, if one is not found then it displays a POSTRIP.RIP.
  97. - Fixed the Bulletin counting routines so that if nothing exists in the
  98.   current language directory it defaults back out to the root to count
  99.   bulletins.
  100. - Fixed the problem with Wildcat! not clearing a RIP screen when the user
  101.   changes from RIP to another emulation during a call.
  102. - Fixed the bulletins and newsletter so that if you are in a language it will
  103.   look for new files in the respective directories.
  104. - Fixed the your settings menu so that when you go from RIP to ansi or
  105.   mono it first clears the rip screen.
  106. - Fixed a problem with searching for user names in the sys/user that would
  107.   display the name twice.
  108. - Fixed the sysop status screen so it no longer attempts to determine the
  109.   size of a CD-Rom that is in the drive table in makewild.
  110. - Fixed the /b command so that it no longer throws a 103 when given a bad
  111.   baud rate.
  112. - Fixed the k-ratios so that they work correctly.
  113. - Fixed a problem with the Sysop being out of time and the system making
  114.   him go back through the login procedure when he hits F1.
  115. - Fixed a problem with logging in with another users name when using the
  116.   /n option for Novell.
  117. - Fixed the newsletter so that if you are in rip and it does not exist the
  118.   system will display a POSTRIP.RIP
  119. - Fixed the bulletins so that if you are in rip and it does not exist the
  120.   system will display a POSTRIP.RIP
  121. - Fixed the problem with some messages causing the header to scroll by one
  122.   line off the top.
  123. - Fixed the full file listing to deal with long descriptions.  Wildcat!
  124.   will always try to get two files on the screen at one time, unless one
  125.   has a description that will prevent it being shown fully.
  126. - Fixed the problem with listing files in full detail were you could select
  127.   a third file even though it was not on the screen.
  128. - Fixed the problem with msg attachments being marked and then being lost
  129.   when the user exited to a door.
  130. - Fixed the problem with wcCODE events causing POSTCALL.BAT to run after
  131.   the event was finished.
  132. - Fixed sysop chat so that it always shows the sysops name when chatting,
  133.   instead of showing the alias when the user was in an alias conference.
  134. - Fixed the upload K Ratios so that they work correctly now. also added
  135.   a KRATIO.BBS file.
  136. - Fixed the sysop window to deal with mono systems, it no longer displays
  137.   color when in mono mode.
  138. - Fixed a problem with listing conferences for a user in the sys/user menu
  139.   that would not show a conference the user was locked out of.
  140. - Fixed a problem when you uploaded a duplicate file, Wildcat! would not
  141.   delete to old file (this is true for local uploads only)
  142. - Fixed a problem with uploading duplicate files locally where it would keep
  143.   the stored path for the new file.
  144. - Fixed the problem with languages at login using the wrong menu file.
  145. - Fixed Wildcat! so that when a program passes the connect rate to
  146.   Wildcat! it stores the connect rate in the string used by wccode and
  147.   the @ connect command.
  148. - Fixed the problem with users being able to request offline files regardless
  149.   of their settings.
  150. - Changed Prompts 1281 and 1282 to reflect new offline request changes.
  151. - Fixed a problem with marking a set of files locally and then going to the
  152.   download screen and hitting ALT - and the system crashing.
  153. - Fixed the problem with the @PAUSE command not allowing Previous if it was
  154.   the last prompt in the file.
  155. - Fixed the msg/sys/user editor so that it now goes to the next and previous
  156.   user when coming from the sysop message menu.
  157. - Fixed the sys/file/editor so that if the uploader is not real it will not
  158.   let you go into the user editor.
  159. - Fixed the problem with certain @ code combinations causing some of the
  160.   screens to be shifted incorrectly.
  161. - Fixed the problem with @ codes messing up the line editor.
  162. - Fixed the problem with input prompts being full and then hitting CTRL-Y
  163.   or delete and having it delete the whole line.
  164. - Fixed the problem with questionnaires not counting the correct number of
  165.   ques files when using a language.
  166. - Fixed the problem with bulletins not counting the correct number of
  167.   bulls when using a language.
  168. - Fixed comment to sysop so that when called from wcCODE you can specify
  169.   whether to prompt the user or not.
  170. - Wildcat! now reads back in the drop files for a wccode app when calling
  171.   SHELL from within wcCODE.
  172. - Fixed wcCODE events so that they can no longer "Time Out".
  173. - Fixed a problem with wcCODE apps calling doors directly and getting the
  174.   wrong doors.
  175. - Fixed the listing file access so that in order to view or list a
  176.   filearea you have to have List access, v4.0 would use download or list
  177.   access.
  178. - Changed the way door and menu files operate, Wildcat! now copies in a
  179.   DOOR.BAT file for batch files instead of using the batch filename as
  180.   it was doing before, this means that terminate on shell users do not
  181.   have to change their scripts.
  182. - DOOR.SYS now sends the password, encoded or not.
  183. - Fixed a problem with forcing a conference in the message search and
  184.   the user is in the same conference.
  185. - Changed the sys/file Xfer and #13 so that if you are moving a file that
  186.   has a matching stored path and the file is successfully moved Wildcat
  187.   will update the stored path as well.
  188. - Fixed the problem with questionnaires using / instead of << to import
  189.   files as the manual states, it now uses <<.
  190. - Fixed a problem with certain file descriptions causing the file listings
  191.   to add a blank line.
  192. - Fixed the problem with Wildcat! reporting the wrong error code for bad or
  193.   missing FILEAREA.UX files.
  194. - Fixed the problem with direct downloads not honoring the ? wildcard.
  195. - Fixed the problem with setting the scrollback buffer below 3.

  197. WcMail 4.01

  200. - Fixed tagging problem when downloading net-status packets.
  201. - Fixed problem with yes/no characters when using languages other than
  202.   English.
  203. - Now only updates last-new-files date after a successful download.
  204. - Network sysops will now properly get attachments.
  205. - Now updates last-read pointer when downloading personal only mail
  206.   (even though it is not necessary).
  207. - Now properly handles Daily Download and Daily KByte set to 0 when
  208.   processing file requests.
  209. - When selecting a particular conference number, the conference list
  210.   display will be updated to show the conference just changed.
  211. - Now properly shows autologoff status when uploading a REP packet.
  212. - Fixed problem with adjusting a user's time within the door.
  213. - The version reported with @VER@ is now just '4.01' without 'MP'.
  214. - Fixed problem with accepting some messages longer than 150 lines.
  215. - Dupe checking no longer includes taglines in the message body.  This
  216.   will eliminate many of the dupes
  217. - Fixed infinite loop problem with long file descriptions.

  219. MakeMenu 4.01
  220. -------------
  221.  New Features
  222.  
  223. - MakeMenu will now let you print from the menu tree picklist.
  224. - MakeMenu can now edit up to 65520 lines in the Menu Tree.  This means
  225.   you could conceivably have 65520 menus defined.
  226. - MakeMenu has a new option 'F7' on the menu tree screen.  This new option
  227.   allows one to insert a default menu system over the current menu system.
  228.   This new menu system is the same as the one on the production diskettes.

  230.  Fixes
  231.  
  232. - Added the @INCHAT@ variable to the Test Menu mode.
  233. - Added support for the language directories in the bulletin/questionnaire/
  234.   display/help file paths.
  235. - MakeMenu is now overlaid.  The reason for this is simply memory
  236.   requirements. MakeMenu utilized much more memory than it should have
  237.   if you had a fairly complex system.
  238. - MakeMenu will no longer do strange things in the test mode if you have a
  239.   command to display text file and it doesn't have any parameters.
  240. - MakeMenu will now let you edit up to 40 characters for the text file name
  241.   in the display text file command.
  242. - Under display text file, you can include a full path and filename.
